John Clayton Jazz

Often compared to Billie Holiday or Sarah Vaughan, the French-American Cécile McLorin Salvant, laureate of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Award, is “the” international revelation that excites the planet “jazz”. The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra is considered the first of the great jazz orchestras of our time! This poster presents an exceptional evening!

The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra was created in 1986 by drummer Jeff Hamilton, bassist John Clayton and his brother, saxophonist Jeff Clayton. Big names in the international jazz scene, the three musicians gather an orchestra composed of the best Californian jazzmen.

The direction of John Clayton, who is also a composer and arranger, is an incredible illustration of music. It literally shows and gives “to see” the originality of the richness of the compositions. The sound of the “best big band in the world” – awarded in 2003 by the readers of the American magazine DownBeat – is unique! It combines the silky reeds with the brilliance of the brass, all supported by the drumming of Jeff Hamilton, one of the greatest jazz drummers.

Hosted for the first time in Bayonne in 2007, then in 2014, The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra is this time associated with Cécile McLorin Salvant. What more could you wish for ? The singer combines the influence of the greatest jazz voices with the unique beauty of her art. Perfect speech, sense of humor, rich vocal technique, phrasing and swing … With a consummate and irresistible art, Cécile McLorin Salvant is an exceptional performer.

This unique concert in our region is a real event!

“Having worked with iconic singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Mel Tormé and many others, I can honestly say that I am impressed by the talent and work of Cécile McLorin Salvant. “

Jeff Hamilton

“Cecile? She is incredible ! Her singing is simply beautiful. “

Jeff Clayton

“I like the way Cecile trains us in every song. She is transformed into a voice whose purpose is to help us to experience and feel every story she sings. As Carmen McRae did for me, Cécile obliges me to listen to the meaning of a song in a welcome and lovely way. “
