Pure Sounds – The Jazz-South African Roots Summit

Tutu Pouane grew up in South Africa, jazz was an integral part of her life early on: “There were many jazz enthusiasts in my family, both my mother and my brothers were or are great lovers and collectors of this music.” If the singer with the magical and wonderfully earthy timbre, now working with the WDR Big Band and the renowned American arranger John Clayton, is a childhood dream come true. In addition to songs from their South African homeland, the program also includes standards of American jazz.

The new “Pure Sounds” series loosens the classic “border” between the audience and the podium. The closeness to the band creates a whole new atmosphere, the audience is involved in the concert much more than before and thus not only experience the music, but also the musicians much more intensely. Pure music enjoyment – not only the external conditions ensure this, but also the guests of the evening.
